Sean is the owner of East Bay Acupuncture & Natural Medicine and a licensed acupuncturist within the State of California (L.Ac.). He is board certified in both Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) and Acupuncture Orthopedics (DNBAO). Sean earned his bachelors degree at U.C., Santa Cruz, and his masters degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine (MCTCM) at Five Branches Institute. As an optional part of this training, Sean earned a certification in Integrative Sports Medicine, under Dr. Frank He.
Sean continued post-graduate training in the treatment of chronic and acute pain under Dr. Richard Tan, and went on to complete a 300-hour program in Acupuncture Orthopedics under Dr. Fred Lerner at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Additionally, Sean completed advanced coursework at Zhejiang TCM University in Hangzhou, China, where he spent time with Western and TCM trained doctors specializing in fertility, gynecology, cardiology, and dermatology. Currently he is pursuing board certification through the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine, and continuing his study of nutrition and functional medicine. Sean teaches Orthopedics and Traumatology at A.C.C.H.S., the Oakland, CA acupuncture school.
Sean spent two years as an apprentice of Michael Tierra and six months as an apprentice of Christopher Hobbs, both are world-renowned authors on herbal medicine. Michael Tierra taught Sean the art of combining herbs from the Western, Ayurvedic, and Chinese herbal traditions. He also specializes in using herbs and acupuncture in supporting conventional approaches to cancer, a tradition which Sean continues. Sean is also a yoga and meditation teacher, having taught classes and workshops throughout the Bay Area for the past nine years. More information about Sean's yoga background can be found here.
